The Panama canal is a choke point. The only alternative for ships waiting in queue at LA or Long Beach is to go all the way south around South America.

For ships leaving the east now, they same applies for Suez/Africa.

Don't get me wrong, I like what DeSantis is doing but it seems that there are logistical challenges to overcome...

Florida doesn’t have deep water ports for the container ships sitting out there. Tampa Bay isn’t dredged deep enough for the massive TEU-laden ships in southern California. We can take some of the smaller boats, but even Savanna, one of the larger southeast ports, is overwhelmed due to lack of truckers.

This isn’t a regional problem, it’s a global stop stick.
