I think everybody who wants a Tesla should buy one. One of my friends has two Teslas (an S and a 3) and a Volt.

I’m not crazy about subsidizing them though.

I agree with you there. Subsidizing warps the innovation process. On the one hand, you had the government forcing people to go to CFL bulbs when it was clear that LEDs were better in everyway and would be affordable in just a few years. So, we made this stupid bad bridge technology that was obsolete and despised by many for a while for no good reason.

On the other hand, we had 17" CRT monitors that chewed up LOTS of electricity, and Energy Star ratings from the government that recommended some over others, even though with no direct government incentives, bigger, lighter, less-emitting LED screens came on the scene over a ten year period. First small and expensive, now large and cheap, and better in just about every conceivable way than the CRT forebears.

I am not interested in an EV for myself, but if the energy storage problem ever gets solved, that would be a game changer for many.
