Former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods (D) died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon at the age of 67, multiple news outlets reported.
“Grant was the love of my life. My best friend. My heart is broken," his wife, Marlene Galan Woods, said in a statement, according to ABC 15. "I just cannot believe he is gone. I can’t believe our time together is over. He was the best husband, the best father anyone could have wished for.”
The details about cause of death were not made available.
Woods was a well-known figure in Arizona politics.
The late politician served as congressional chief of staff for the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in the 1980s, and remained friends with the Vietnam War veteran for the rest of his life. Woods supported McCain when he ran for the U.S. Senate nomination in 2010, AZ Family noted and spoke at McCain's funeral in 2018.
McCain passed away from complications related to brain cancer. At the time, he held one of Arizona's Senate seats.
Woods also served as the state Attorney General from 1991 to 1999, according to the former politician's website.

He’s a Democrat and a politician. I hope it hurt.
That anyone with a modicum of common sense and an IQ above room temperature knows of.
What is it with you smooth brained conspiracy clowns anyway?
The enemy is here.
67 is not old....did the jab kill him?
A premier example of a Derp State Demonrat who had infested the GOP. Arguably could make the case that he was McQueeg’s handler and directed him on how to sabotage the GOP from within. He waited until after Trump became President to “officially” become a Demonrat. No doubt if McQueeg had accidentally won in 2008, Grant Woods would’ve been put on the Supreme Court. Prayers for his soul.
The man who knew too much?
This is what our former Gov. Jan Brewer tweeted.....
I’m totally shocked to learn that my friend @GrantWoods passed away earlier today. Grant stood with me through many battles. We didn’t agree on everything, but he always fought for, defended and cheered for me. An honorable public servant who I will deeply miss. RIP Grant. 💔— Jan Brewer (@GovBrewer) October 24, 2021
Jan is more gracious than me.
