If we keep going down this path, soon we won’t have much of a “middle class” at all. When I first started writing about the economy many years ago, I often wrote about the tens of millions of “working poor” Americans that were enduring so many hardships. But at this point most of the nation now falls into the “working poor” category. That isn’t because wages haven’t been going up.
Little by little, wages have been incrementally rising year after year, but meanwhile the cost of living has been absolutely soaring. Paychecks have not even come close to keeping up with inflation, and this has been eviscerating the middle class. Today, the majority of the country is in constant “survival mode” financially, and that isn’t going to change any time soon.
When I was growing up, retailers that catered to the middle class did exceptionally well. My mother was constantly taking me and my siblings to JCPenney and Sears, and it seemed like that was where virtually everyone shopped.
But now such retailers are rapidly going extinct. Today, the retailers that are doing well are those that cater to the very bottom of the economic food chain (Walmart, dollar stores, etc.) or those that cater to the very top of the economic food chain.

Not disagreeing with you, elimination of the middle class is necessary for the tyrants to take over…..
But……a lot of the middle class destroys itself. People spend money they didn’t have on things they don’t need. Many live way beyond there means….paycheck to paycheck but they have all the toys, cable TV, new cars….
Planned economy.
That is likely because half of “US” workers are illegals or here with work permits after arriving illegally.

The truth is nobody knows how many illegal aliens are in the USA. The left insists it’s 11 million but they’ve used that number for DECADES now, as if they stopped arriving or breeding. It’s likely easily 50 million or more. Some of us remember no “dial 1 for spanish” when calling businesses.
They would make a lot more, and keep more in their pocket if taxes weren’t so high!
Too much thievery by government, from local to federal. It pushes up the costs of everything we buy and stifles productivity.

Fifty years ago I thought making $5000 a year was great!
Then it became $7000.
A few years more and it was $8000.
Then $9000.
As time goes on, the amount needed for a comfortable living (keeping the wolf away from the door) increases.
And each time, the dollar becomes worth less, and buys less.
Well, that’s more than $600 so they better turn their banking records over.
You can make more than that by going insane and collecting disability.
It is the household income that is important. The bottom 50% of households had an income less than $69,200 in 2020. However, 25% of households had an income greater than $125,00. The rest were in between.
Bet anyone an ice cream bar that NONE of the ILLEGALS paychecks were included...
Even the illegals working dairy farms in Wisconsin & lining up at the one teller at bank of Friday afternoon.
