Powell didn't have to go into Iraq. We could have eradicated the Republican Guard presence in Iraq, seriously affecting Saddam's ability to hold on to power. The truce we negotiated with Saddam at the conclusion of Desert Storm was seriously flawed. Powell stopped the fighting three days too early.

I was assigned to our Embassy in Riyadh and was present for Dersert Shield/Storm from start to finish. I went up to Kuwait two days after the war was over. Witnessed the burning oil fields and the "Highway of death" from the air and on the ground.
