Fudd. noun. Slang term for a “casual” gun owner; eg; a person who typically only owns guns for hunting or shotgun sports and does not truly believe in the true premise of the second amendment. These people also generally treat owners/users of so called “non sporting” firearms like handguns or semiautomatic rifles with unwarranted scorn or contempt.
People don’t know what Fudds are. It’s like people think that guy at the range with a 1911, or a Colt Python, or anybody who has a Remington 870 with wood furniture and a vent rib barrel is a Fudd. You could tell point out to the majority of these people that people like Rep. Dan Crenshaw cosponsored things like the TAPS Act (HR 838) and came out in favor or Red Flag laws, or President Donald J. Trump and the bumpstock ban (made thousands of people overnight felons without due process, passage of legislation, or just compensation).
There’s also the site The Firearms Blog which does damage with weekly “Hot Gat or Fudd Crap” postings, usually stuff on Gun Broker that’s been Bubba’d, or just have really tacky ceracoat jobs. These postings have been largely Glocks (or something else antithetical to being Fudd), and have recently moved to AR’s and AK’s.
Like any other culture, gun culture as its fair share of ignorant people, and outright dumb mufkers.
It came into existence when it was found that an Officer's M1892 .38 cal revolver might eventually kill a charging (muslim) Moro in the Philippines, but often not before said Moro killed the officer who had emptied his gun into him.
IOW, it was designed specifically to drop a terrorist in his tracks.
What's not to like?
To me, a Fudd is a gunowner who votes for Democrats because he’s a union guy.
