According to the CDC, of the deaths involving COVID in 2020, some 24,421 decedents were found in their homes. By contrast, there were some 244,268 deaths involving COVID in hospital inpatient settings, and an additional 13,179 in outpatient settings or at hospital emergency rooms.
For 2021 so far, there have been 30,179 deaths involving COVID where the decedents were found at home. There have been 235,213 deaths involving COVID in hospital inpatient settings and another 10,645 in outpatient settings or at emergency rooms.
Naturally, there have also been a number of deaths involving COVID in other congregant care settings such as nursing homes and in hospice.
In short, given how these things get reported and written about generally, it only seems as if everyone who is said to have died of COVID did so in a hospital setting. Still, it seems reasonable to conclude that one of the greatest risk factors for dying of COVID is to go to a hospital seeking treatment for COVID.
I have always been very wary about hospitals.
It is true that very sick folks go there, so of course there will be many deaths there.
However, if hospitals are not very diligent in protecting their patients, then those patients could be subject to any diseases elsewhere in the hospital that are airborne and could spread through vents.
Hospital workers are human and can make mistakes—both in diagnosis, treatment etc.
In addition hospital workers can be carriers for any types of contagious diseases found there.
If you are wealthy and can afford the absolute best care in the very best hospitals, then they are probably a solid net plus.
However, the average hospital for the average folks—imho they are a risky bet to be used only when there are no other reasonable alternatives.
