Prices are going up? They should will more fiat reserve notes into existence and pass another stimulus.
Items like the screws I use have doubled in price, but I bought such a large quantity this is the fist time I’ve had to buy them again in two years. Some of the hurricane ties are still cheap, but others have gone up anywhere from 25-50%. The reason I went to six suppliers was in search of a specialty 4x16 tie. Totally unavailable unless I wanted it in 12 ga, in which case they were $10 each.
Lumber was a special situation. We’re in a building frenzy and there was a hurricane and a huge fire, the two of which took out a high percentage of the capacity. Also, Trump put a large tariff on Canadian lumber in order to force them to the negotiating table. Then the “election” happened and the Canadian (interior minister?) said that no one in the administration would even take his calls. So I paid a bit over five grand for a materials list that was quoted at seven grand just a year ago. Big win there.
Appliances are being quoted as available no earlier than next April. I’ll wager their prices will be screaming up. We really need to bring manufacturing back to the states. Globalization meant China got to build everything with their managed economy and no profit. The objective of china is to keep people employed, not make money. It’s time to kick them out of the global economy.
