Singleton's Caledonian Hotel licensee fined for breaching COVID-19 vaccination requirements

Just hours after vowing to defy coronavirus vaccination requirements, the licensee of a notorious "freedom" pub in the NSW Hunter Valley has been fined for breaching pubklic health orders.

In a social media post on Sunday, the Caledonian Hotel in Singleton pledged to "never give up fighting against the tyrants and evil that threaten our very own freedom and liberties."

"Abiding by the law, we will not be invading people's privacy and asking for their medical status. Let's hope that those who uphold the law can do the same," a post from venue management said.

The post described the public health orders requiring patrons to show their vaccination status as "the most shameful and disgusting act ever to be imposed on the good people of Australia, that being segregation and discrimination."

On Monday police attended the venue and issued $1,000 Penalty Infringement Notices (PINS) to the licensee, a 57-year old man, and a 54-year old employee, related to being unvaccinated and present at high-risk premises.

The licensee has also issue a PIN for failing to take reasonable steps to ensure unvaccinated adults were not inside the business.

"Officers have spoken with the licensee and reminded him of his obligations under the Public Health Act," a police spokesperson said...

Just like the US, they value their pensions more than “our” freedoms.

Back the blue can kiss my a$$.

Wow, you found something that actually happened.

So, of course, everything else you’ve been told must have happened too.

You do not seem to be able to grasp the distinction between reality and exaggeration.

I have consistently there are real problems here.

There is also a hell of a lot that is being made up.

And the difference is important.

“You do not seem to be able to grasp the distinction between reality and exaggeration.”

Your ability to equivocate about what is happening in your own Country amazes me. I have no such equivocation about what is happening to ours, and I mince no words. You do.

I do not mince words.

I tell the truth.

The fact you regard that as mincing words tells me a lot about you.

“The fact you regard that as mincing words tells me a lot about you.”

LOL, you’re such a touchy sort, and just like the Dems, you always navigate to the personal attacks because you don’t have a leg to stand on in rational debate. Everyone on FR seems to see what’s happening in Australia but you, and you live there. But you are myopic, and don’t seem to understand the true gravity of what is happening in your country. On to the next article that pops up about Australia on FR.

LOL, you’re such a touchy sort, and just like the Dems, you always navigate to the personal attacks because you don’t have a leg to stand on in rational debate.

Yes, I'm touchy about being called a liar. Because I'm not one. I'm telling the truth.

. Everyone on FR seems to see what’s happening in Australia but you, and you live there.

Yes. I live here. You do not. Very few of these people on FR you are talking about do. Can you not grasp the basic fact that somebody living in a country is likely to have a better idea of what is going on in that country compared to a bunch of people living thousands of miles away who are only getting their information second or third or fourth hand. You are being lied to. You are being manipulated. You are being exposed to propaganda and you just swallow it whole because it matches your prejudices. You want it to be true, so you assume it is. And every bit of crap you're fed that supports your position is accepted, and any information you cannot fit into the delusional fantasy you have created in your own head is automatically dismissed.

But you are myopic, and don’t seem to understand the true gravity of what is happening in your country.

No, I am not myopic. I know exactly what is going on here and I am sick to death of morons like you making it harder to address the real problems because we have to waste our time on your crap. You are part of the reason why Australia is in having problems right now. You are the enemy of every freedom loving Australian because you think you know what is happening and you will not accept that you have been lied to. I would love to have people like you as an ally with dealing with the real problems, but every time you spew verbal diarrhea about "concentration camps" and similar, you make everybody who is opposed to what is actually happen here look like an extremist dishonest idiot.

On to the next article that pops up about Australia on FR.

Which you will swallow whole if it matches your delusions, and reject if it doesn't.

Like I say, I live here. I know what is going on.

I am getting a bit sick of armchair observers on the other side of the world telling me things are worse than they are.

I am watching morons saying America should end its alliance with my country because of lies and propaganda.

My father died in an American led war. I served in one.

We do not need this crap undermining an alliance we’ve bled for.

America has hardly any friends in the world. Pissing on one of the few that has consistently stood with you is brain dead stupid.

It’s evil.

OK—you have the floor.

What _exactly_ is happening in Australia.

Are there vaccination mandates or not?

Are there “get the jab or lose your job” requirements or not?

Please enlighten us furners.

I can't spend my entire life correcting misinformation on Freerepublic. Especially because some people just don't want to accept they might have been mislead. I have written dozens of comments trying to do that over recent weeks and one long post on this and I'll refer you to it.

So what is going on in Australia? View from an Australian Freeper

It's slightly out of date at this point - things are actually improved from what they were when I wrote it a couple of weeks. NSW is close to out of lockdown. Victoria is about two weeks from reaching that stage if nothing changes. The rest of the country is actually pretty normal - and has been for most of this pandemic.

But I'll happily answer your specific questions.

Are there vaccination mandates or not?

Not in the sense that there is any legal requirement to be vaccinated, although the term is being used to refer to the things in your next question.

Are there “get the jab or lose your job” requirements or not?

Yes, there are. How prevalent they are depends on the state - in my state (Victoria), it's now very close to a requirement for any job at all unless you work completely alone from home. Other states haven't taken it that far, but might in the future.

There are some real problems in some parts of Australia right now. The problem is that it's getting exaggerated as well. It's perfectly legitimate to regard any pressure to be vaccinated as unacceptable but a lot of people are claiming things are far worse than that. I've seen videos here on Freerepublic that have been doctored to overlay sounds of automatic weapons fire over recordings of police running around to try and give people the impression Australian police are engaged in mass shootings. That's not happening. I've seen claims there are concentration camps in Australia and infected people or unvaccinated people are being rounded up and forced into them. That's not happening. There's a lot of other stuff that's just misinterpretation - but some of it is blatant lies.

And so many people here, and Americans in general seem to be just swallowing these lies.

Understand - my state of Victoria does have an authoritarian socialist government that has gone far further than any other government in Australia in trampling on people's rights during this pandemic. I've had to live under this for the last nineteen months or so. I know how bad it is.

But it's an anomaly - it's not the norm in Australia. And when people start talking about this as if it's all of Australia, it actually makes it harder for us to do anything about it. Because it stops looking unusual. It diverts attention away from the specific reasons this state is the way it is.

People also don't understand that constitutionally there's very little Australia's federal government can do about it.

Solving this problem is not easy - I'm actually heavily involved in trying to do it. I would go as far as to say I'm a reasonably important figure in trying to solve these problems. But my role is in doing this through political and constitutional means - to make progress it's really important that the true situation isn't compounded by misinformation. We're finding we're having to spend large amounts of our time dealing with made up issues and it's reducing the amount of time we have to focus on the actual things that need to be fixed.

Glad to hear that things are getting better in some areas.

I think part of the psychology of Americans is the fact that Australia is an island—the idea of being trapped on an island under authoritarian rule is the stuff of nightmares.

The rise in authoritarian rule in all Western countries (including the US) terrifies us—we were brought up to believe “it couldn’t happen here” and it looks like the Fourth Reich goose-steppers have taken over almost all major institutions (including mass media) around the world.

So—I understand your frustration—but hope this context helps...

You strangely decided to be distracted with correcting other people’s opinions. You are a political activist but also appointed yourself accurate press and fact checker.

I have to be. Because the lies are causing us real problems. I wish I didn't have to waste so much time on this, but it's the only way we can get traction.

You try going into a meeting to get support from a person with very significant public influence and asking him for help in exposing the fact that a curfew wasn't justified by any health advice (which is a real issue) and having them ask why you're not fighting against the concentration camps - you have to spend an hour going through every lie he's been told, and by the time you're finished, he's saying "Well, compared to all that, a curfew doesn't sound that bad."

I think I should add to my previous post to explain why the curfew issue was actually a big deal. It was the one issue that might have allowed us to have our dictatorial state Premier, Daniel Andrews, removed from office by constitutional means, and if we could have achieved that, this state would be in much better shape.

Unfortunately we couldn’t get the traction we needed on such an ‘unsexy’ issue, partly because the people we needed to help us had had their attention focused on much more dramatic but non-existent issues.
