DES MOINES, IOWA – Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley cut straight to the chase when asked if he’d gladly accept the support of former President Trump as the longtime lawmaker from Iowa runs next year for an eighth six-year term in the Senate.
"Anybody who’s got the approval rating of 91% of the Republicans in Iowa, you surely wouldn’t be stupid enough to turn down that help," Grassley told Fox News on Saturday at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, minutes before Trump’s first rally in the Hawkeye State since last November’s election got underway.

Gov. Reynolds will not take orders from anyone when the time comes to replace Grassley (some think he will step down in 2024).
Reynolds hand-picked Joni Ernst to run for the Senate in 2014. Picking Grassley’s replacement would be 2 for 2. Extraordinary!
Why?
.
The Republican Senate defended Hunter, Joe, and brother James for 1,460 days!
.
Some endorsements have to be made because the winner would win anyway regardless of who is endorsed. If Trump endorses a challenger that loses, his endorsement is not worth as much for another candidate in a different race.
Age. Supposed insiders have said he wasn’t enthusiastic about running this time, but Iowa GOP leaders are worried the seat could be lost. The compromise would be to run in 2022 and retire 2 years later, allowing Gov. Reynolds to evaluate successors rather than depending on a primary.
Yeah, Grassley looked to be 112 doddering up there on the stage. Hasn’t he enriched himself enough at the public trough, or is he just waiting until he thinks his grandson Pat (who is also a squidgy moderate) can take over the family senate seat?
Grassley will surely win and step down six months after. Not sure who would be best to take his place though. I like the way Grassley votes, and therefore I support him.

You sure you don’t mean Terry Branstad? Reynolds was hardly a blip in the screen in 2014.
Branstad tried to recruit Reynolds to run for Senate. Reynolds instead put a full court press on to recruit Ernst.
