At kindergarten level our school had safety classes for kids walking to school. Taught how to safely cross highways etc.
That of course doesn’t happen today and the world is far more dangerous for kids walking.
In the fourth grade we had a school safety patrol. It was a coveted gig because if you belonged you got to leave class 10 min. early at the end of the day to carry and set up the cones at nearby intersections and stop traffic for the kids to cross.
The bummer was you had to be at school 20 minutes early to to the same thing in the morning.
Imagine today’s society allowing nine year-old kids be the crossing guards.
