And the hits just keep coming. Who knew we would be looking back in 2021 to the "good times" of 2020?

10 Oct: Australian Financial Review: China could clear Aussie coal amid energy shock
by James Thomson
An energy crisis in Europe has exacerbated the problem; the price of top-quality Newcastle (Australia) thermal coal hit a fresh record of $US244.11 a tonne on Friday, up from just $US49 a tonne in August 2020...

Wood Mackenzie principal analyst Rory Simington estimated about 5 million tonnes of coking coal and 3 million tonnes of thermal coal stockpiled at Chinese ports could be cleared by customs officials for use in China’s domestic market.
But Mr Simington said the relatively small amounts involved would do little to cool surging prices...

(Liberum analyst Tom Price) estimates miners in the two provinces (Shanxi and Inner Mongolia) will be unable to lift production beyond 100 million tonnes in the quarter, but says China needs more like 500 million tonnes of coal to rebalance the nation’s energy market...

Mr Price said China would gain little from lifting its ban on Australian coal as “we suspect some of Australia’s thermal [and metallurgical] coal’s still getting to China via third-party players to avoid the ban”.

The Chinese government could lift the price caps it has imposed on local electricity generators, which would incentivise more supply from miners but result in surging inflation.

Mr Price said the most effective strategy would be to continue to manage demand and put the brakes on heavy industry, but this would also have ramifications for the global economy...

Remember just a few years back when oil got so plentiful the spot price on a barrel dropped to $0. Good times, indeed, now gone.

Possibly God’s judgment. If so, America is ripe for it also.

India is having significant coal supply problems too. Aussie land should tell China to suck it and sell to India.

China’s “wolf diplomacy” is diplomatically isolating them better then anything the USA or its allies could do.

This is a golden opportunity for the Biden admin.

In one stroke

They could revive our coal industry
( we have the world’s best coal btw) put thousands of miners and others back to work
Charge exorbant prices to China and get those price

Revive our economy overnight

Knock China to their knees financially,
possibly bring down the or whole barbaric Communist government

Prevent a war over Taiwan

Free the honourable Chinese population

In short

Become the world’s hero and number one superpower and force for good .

But
Being in reality

another Communist politburu

run by
the terrorist loving,
aiding and abetting

TalyBiden regime...

We won’t.

Jmho.

I don't think God is in charge of screwing things up.

OK, so occasionally he'll restart things...

you are right. however, the “climate mob” have been stalling Indian investment in Australian coal for over a decade, and now the present Federal Govt which got elected because of coal votes, has gone all net zero emissions pre Cop26, antagonising at least half of the country.

24 Sept: Australian Financial Review: Adani within months of first coal exports
by Peter Ker
Adani Australia chief executive Lucas Dow says the first coal from Queensland’s Carmichael mine will leave Australian shores before the end of the year, as soaring coal prices look set to give the controversial project a lucrative start to life...

Part of the reason Adani’s Carmichael project attracted more controversy than other Australian coal projects over the past decade was because it will be the first mine and rail development in the otherwise untapped Galilee coal basin.

The trail blazed by Adani in the Galilee has reduced the barriers to entry – particularly in terms of transport infrastructure – for other companies with coal tenements in the Galilee.
Federal Resources Minister Keith Pitt acknowledged as much upon attending the publicity launch for the locomotives on Friday.
“They [Adani] have not only paved the way, they have kicked the door down,” he said...

this vast land, Australia, has such low population density and all the natural resources anyone could hope for, so it is absurd to imagine it will take up electric vehicles (imagine the charger infrastructure that would be required).

also ridiculous Australia has been closing down coal-fired plants, while China is building hundreds, domestically or around the world.

why Australia would go along with this phony “climate” accord is beyond me, given the EU countries that insist on it are densely population and, in many cases, low in natural resources.
