Actually, I think it is a mutton snapper. The black spot gives it wawy:

Years ago many conchs(keys people) at Thanksgiving or Christmas would take a grouper of that size or larger or a mutton stuff him with crabmeat dressing and have a keys style Thanksgiving it’s still done in a few places.
