Breck Dumas Fri, October 8, 2021, 9:02 PM·2 min read Emergency medical service providers across the U.S. are sounding the alarm that the shortage of medical workers has hit "crisis" levels in many areas, warning Congress that the problem is getting to the point that it is threatening the 911 system.
The American Ambulance Association sent a letter to House and Senate leadership saying the "nation's EMS system is facing a crippling workforce shortage, a long-term problem that has been building for more than a decade. It threatens to undermine our emergency 9-1-1 infrastructure and deserves urgent attention by the Congress."

Great job killer this mandate is
I actually had someone post back to me… aw the 2 percent who refuse and get fired are nothing in a large system. I posted back.. um.. prns are working close to full time with all sorts of incentive pay for everyone.
I moved from a large system with a mandate taking a 20 percent pay cut. 2 percent matters. The Lord provides… hubbies new job made up the difference and then some. But it was tough.
I may need to switch too
Sigh 😔
Prayers appreciated

The cult
All you in the medical community know that I’m... right
;)
All in the plan
ems shortage is not caused by vaccine mandates, small percentage at most (and every bit helps), the real killer is the stupidly low pay at many of the private ambulance services.
My son works in EMS and has been putting in 90-110/hrs per week for the last two years, at $15/hr (1.5X for OT, but he puts in the hours with 2 different services so not much of it is actually OT).
These companies are basically scammers, have a fleet of unsafe trucks, pay the same as someone working at McDonalds or baggin groceries, and then bill medicare and insurance companies as much as they can, and the owners are pocketing the profits - all while complaining that they can’t hire enough people.
My paramedic-firefighter brother in the State of Washington will retire rather than get a COVID-19 vaccine.
My mom offered to take his wife to NYC to see some Broadway shows. His wife turned down the offer because she would be required to get the jab
He should get trained to be a para-medic could triple his pay, get hired as a firefighter, go through that training and make $80+K per year plus overtime and great benefits
Past time for that pay scale to be raised.
My recent 9 years of EMS experience (in a blue city), reflects this. Covid, then Biden’s unemployment bonanza.
That’s what I did.
Detroit Fire/EMS.
Retired now.
Cities and Counties pay, they need reliable service.
Private Ambulance Service try to get away with as much as possible.
>>He should get trained to be a para-medic could triple his pay, get hired as a firefighter, go through that training and make $80+K per year plus overtime and great benefits
Very true, and a government run service would have better pay and benefits; in his case he is off to med school next fall, so this is all great experience for him - but how these companies expect young folks (they are mostly young) to show up in the middle of the night in some crime ridden hell-hole, wearing a bullet-proof vest so he doesn’t get shot for $15/hr is beyond me.
Easy Fix:
This crisis was created by Government employee’s, NO Public Employee’s shall receive any EMERGENCY TREATMENT in our Hospital.
When they start DYING in the parking lot, things will change
