NEW DELHI -- An energy crisis is looming over India as coal supplies grow perilously low, adding to challenges for a recovery in Asia’s third largest economy after it was wracked by the pandemic.
Supplies across the majority of coal-fired power plants in India have dwindled to just days worth of stock.
Federal Power Minister R. K. Singh told the Indian Express newspaper this week that he was bracing for a “trying five to six months.”
“I can’t say I am secure … With less than three days of stock, you can’t be secure,” Singh said.
The shortages have stoked fears of potential black-outs in parts of India, where 70% of power is generated from coal. Experts say the crunch could upset renewed efforts to ramp up manufacturing.
Power cuts and shortages over the years have subsided in big cities, but are fairly common in some smaller towns.
Out of India’s 135 coal plants, 108 were facing critically low stocks, with 28 of them down to just one day’s worth of supply, according to power ministry data released on Wednesday, the most recently available.

Guess I’m not keeping up, but why are large parts of the world all of a sudden having these energy shortages?
I see an opportunity here, for enterprising US coal companies...

Three answers:
1. Leftists
2. Leftists
3. Leftists
Something’s weird...

The US has a 250 year supply. DIG BABY DIG.
US Coal companies are all ready producing as much as they can.
They need more miners.
Could this be another Deep State attempt to destabilize India by putting out more bogus headlines...
Think of the supply chain as a garden hose
What happens if you put a kink in the hose mid way between the faucet and the nozzle?
Government “stimulus” spending and central banks easy money policies are the faucet which is wide open. The hose is the supply chain, the kink is Covid restrictions.
The back up effects all shipping raw material as well finished goods
More export terminals on the west coast would help a lot. Greenies have deliberately interfered with the flow of coal to Asia. Right now much Wyoming coal has to be sent to Canada for export from their terminals.

Plandemic/”climate change” suppy and supply chain squeezes?
I am with you. I came to this thread to see if there was any explanation. There doesn’t seem to be. This appears to be mostly coal.
The best explanation I have heard, so far, was that Australia was a large supplier, and particularly to ChyNa. I think that has been shut down, now. It might be that Oz shipped coal to India, as well, but is now in Lock Down.
It is definitely more disaster added to disaster. Since the Leftists are running things, it’s not surprising that the “press” doesn’t want to talk about it.
“Indonesia was the largest source of coal imports to India in 2019, accounting for 49% of total coal imports. Other major sources are Australia (20%) and South Africa (16%).”
It is either a shipping or a port problem, or both. In the US it is a port and truck driver problem.
Rumor has it there is a lot of coal in West by God Virginia just sitting around waiting to be used.
Stupid people! Can’t they just put up some windmills and solar panels and solve that problem?
India is GOING GREEN!!
they should Celebrating?
Most “miners” are now engineers and those jobs pay pretty good money.
Freeper posted earlier this month that his coal miner son is working so much OT he and his wife bought their dream home 3 years early
There is good paying work for the willing out there.
I have shirt tail relations in the coal industry in W. Va.
I should give them a ring.
with that level of work, it explains why I have heard from them in a while
