WTF’s going on?
I read something the other day that an American carrier hit a rock somewhere and punched a hell of a hole it and dam near sank.
Doesn't anybody still know how to drive these things?

Rumor has it Captain Nemo’s Nautilus was forced off course by the Seaview which was avoiding Nazi torpedoes from a time traveling WWII U boat. The American sub bumped it. Nemo vows revenge.
We need FR to untangle these messy stories the media can’t figure out.

It’s a big ocean and not well charted. The USS San Francisco ran into an uncharted seamount a number of years back and was almost lost. If Connecticut was operating close to shore, not an unlikely event, then it could have hit an uncharted obstacle. Passive sonar wouldn’t have picked it up.

You would have thought they would have detected a Chinese sub before they hit it.Might have been a woman driver applying makeup while looking in the rearview mirror. Or maybe texting while driving.

Well, if you’re going to hit something make sure it’s not another vessel.
The Navy has had a problem with that recently.

These boats are really quiet. In the 1970s we did an exercise with two 637 class submarines at AUTEC. One was equipped with a noise maker to sound like a Soviet sub. We tried the exercise without the noise maker on, and we passed right over each other without detection by either boat. Thank God for depth separation!

Hi.
“It’s a big ocean and not well charted. The USS San Francisco ran into an uncharted seamount a number of years back and was almost lost. “
I remember that. A board of inquiry didn’t Article 32 the captain.
IIRC, a very large earthquake had happened in the AO.
Moved stuff around.
