If you live in a good spot and have a metal roof, put solar panels onto your roof. I did. Here in Alabama my power hasn't gone out in years. But if it did I'd buy a gasoline generator.

My solar is making about 2/3rds of the power I've consumed. Money-wise it's a horrible investment -- it'll take many years for it to pay for itself and I make much more investing in equity funds. Nor is it a replacement for fossil fuels -- nothing is. But it gives me the peace of mind that at least a healthy portion of my energy costs are pre-paid and can't be messed up by Dims trying to make everybody repent from their cow farting sins.

Solar power panels are now more efficient....a lot of old ones are headed for the scrap yard / landfill.

For a single residence it doesn't make sense to replace old ones.

Wind powered large ones are another matter...eventually stall out (gearbox busted) or disintegrate.

” and have a metal roof”

What’s the importance of a metal roof?

Me too. I have 18 panels, and they do about 2/3 of my electricity.

I added a few electric baseboards, and on sunny days in the winter, I let them run. My Oil bill is half what is was.
