Arihant is the most important platform within India’s nuclear triad covering land-air-sea modes.
Arihant’s propulsion compartment was damaged after water entered it, according to details available with The Hindu. A naval source said water rushed in as a hatch on the rear side was left open by mistake while it was at harbour.

Jeez… talk about lack of attention to detail.
This accident occurred in 2018.
I would have thought that any hatch would have a limit switch to let you know that it is open , maybe not.
The big question that everyone has (especially the Chinese) is: has the damage been repaired and is the sub now operational?
This article was written over 3 1/2 years ago, and the accident was 10 months prior to that.
Chow time!
Hey, did you close the hatch?
Ummmmmm.....sure.
At least the screen door was latched.
The curry fumes in that boat must be overwhelming.
