Occam’s Razor: The kid was probably recording the teacher’s lecture as it’s more accurate than taking notes. Lots of kids do this and it’s accepted practice in schools where the faculty isn’t afraid of being recorded.
Agreed.
Another reasonable possibility is that kids are nearly constantly recording on their phones for a gazillion different everyday reasons. The fact that one of the hundreds (thousands?) of kids in a high school happened to be recording at that moment in time is pretty unspectacular.
Good point you brought up about students recording school lectures. It hadn’t dawned on me that this strategy had expanded to HS.
In college, I recorded darn near every math, science and engineering class I took. In the evening, I usually listened to each days recording and used that to tweak my notes and make sure I had homework assignments and schedules right. Next, I would start on reading and homework.
A typical 15-16 credit hour load of STEM program stuff would give me about 20-25 hours of class and lab time and added to that would be 40-50 hours of study and homework.
