This is one of the few situations where, IMHO, vaccination requirements make a semblance of sense. Once an organ transplant recipient actually receives an organ, from what I understand they go on meds to SUPPRESS THEIR IMMUNE SYSTEM so the donated organ is not rejected. That makes them subsequently very susceptible to infections. What otherwise would be a minor infection can easily kill them.

There are many people on WAITING lists to receive an organ transplant. It makes sense to give an organ to a person most likely to successfully receive the transplant and live.

Even the vax skeptics like Berenson and Malone think high risk patients should get the shots and being in bad enough shape to need a new kidney qualifies.

I don't see the logic. My sister had to have a bone marrow transplant. They kill your immune system in preparation, to get rid of what ever is causing the organ failure.

She can not get any shots until her system has recovered enough to fight off the effects of a “harmless” vaccine of any type.

Maybe I need to change my organ donor card to exempt those who have been vaccinated...I wonder how that would be perceived....

You’re stretching it bigly as in S-T-R-E-T-C-H.

The vaccine sheds like fleas through a chain link fence.

To answer your concern, NO NO NO.

So your a a doctor now. You have data to show that people without COVID vaccine are greater risk after surgery? You would make an excellent gate keeper at this Colorado Auschwitz Transplant clinic. Your common sense is quite ghoulish frankly. Your assume this person will get COVID and die so screw them they get no medical care. Let's take your common sense to the next level. No vaccine, no Emergency Room Services. Save beds for those vaccinated and most likely to live.

None of this makes sense unless you subscribe to the belief their are two classes of Citizens, vaccinated and unvaccinated.

My brother got the jab under the recommendation of his transplant team. Just had the test to see how many antibodies he has...zero. The meds he takes so his body does not reject the transplant seems to work against the jab. From what the doctors have observed the jab doesn't work well or at all for liver transplants. Don't know about other types of transplants.

You’re Ok, you were trying to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.

But realize the vaccine sheds virus a lot and so your logic should be reversed. I’d bet if you knew about the shedding you would have posted differently.

Hang in there, it’s only a one point foul.

Agreed.
The reality is, the institutions who provide the organ - make the rules, and ALWAYS have. The candidate who has other physiological risks is not, in their view - likely to result in a successful outcome.
At this point in transplant science, when the number of available organs are still so greatly outmatched by the need - they quite understandably, only move forward with what they believe will have the most likely successful grafts.
They want long term survival rates, and the risk from COVID is a very concerning variable to them, for many reasons.
