And, anything can happen in a short series.
‘That’s what I call a self-evident proposition, as the dog’s-meat man said, when the housemaid told him he warn’t a gentleman.’
Except for 2002. That was a bash-fest.
“as the dog’s-meat man said, when the housemaid told him he warn’t a gentleman.”
Heh. I have no idea what that means, nor how it’s at all analogous to baseball. I know people generally don’t like having to explain a joke, but please feel free to elaborate.
That’s from Dickens’s “The Pickwick Papers.” Meant to convey a sense of something that’s so obvious that it hardly needs to be stated outright.
Go White Sox!
Let the virtue signaling begin. Who is going to be the first to say What’s an MLB?
The 1996-2000 Yankees won fourteen straight World Series games despite downright mediocre pitching outside of closer Mariano Rivera. Andy Pettitte has five World Series championships and a record 19 post-seasons wins despite a very average ERA (3.86 in the regular season, 3.81 in the post-season).
Off-topic but when did everyone start referring to baseball as ,”MLB” the way they talk about the NFL or NBA?
Yes I know MLB stands for major League baseball, but years ago people said the entire words and didn’t abbreviate their speech by saying MLB. I was wondering when this change bappened. Ive been following baseball for 60 years but it’s only in recent years I hear people say MLB like that.
Not sure but I just got lazy so I abbreviated
I missed the game with the swarm of midgets descending upon the field. You think its on YouTube? I'd like to see that.
“I was wondering when this change bappened. Ive been following baseball for 60 years but it’s only in recent years”
Yeah, it seems to have begun just a few years ago. I can see why it started. MLB is easier to say and requires less typing. Maybe it’s a natural evolution related to how much we all communicate with electronic devices now.
I don’t understand why the Giants are rated third overall, when their K/BB is first and in all other categories they are second.
I have a copy of The Pickwick Papers. I tried reading it. Several times. But I just couldn’t muddle through it.
Probably typing in mlb.com to catch up on scores and the standings might have something to do with it.
Yes it could be people are talking the way they type things on the internet.
It's like the Bible, which the average person uses more as a talisman than a guide.
Whenever the Cardinals sneak into the post-season, they have a tendency to win the whole thing.
