I wonder if this is three D chess and by attacking Trump the media will feature him, getting his message out that the generals are scum? “If he hates Trump he must be right.”

It's definitely a thought that crossed my mind, but Lt. Col. Scheller didn't have to go strong after Trump. He could have said something to the effect that this isn't a partisan issue and he's fighting for the Constitution not any political side.

I'm not sure what to think of the guy now.
