If it’s the mother of a Taliban leader that seems unlikely.
Options are:
1) A group more radical than the Taliban (ISIS)
2) A remnant group that still supports the previous regime and is targeting Taliban leadership
3) A false flag by the Taliban to justify a purge of anyone who could be attached to options 1 or 2
al-qaeda. They and the taliban are enemies.
