While political tensions between Beijing and Canberra were largely left aside, WA Premier Mark McGowan used an event with the state's top Chinese diplomat to lament the eastern states' failure to acknowledge China's contribution to Australia's economic success.
Neither McGowan nor Consul General Long Dingbin made mention of their nations' ongoing trade war, the AUKUS deal and the nuclear submarines that come with it, or the fact that Australian Federal Ministers cannot get their Chinese counterparts to pick up the phone.
As guests of honor, alongside mining magnate Andrew Forrest, they both highlighted the strong relationship WA had with China at the China Australia Business Council even to celebrate 72nd Chinese National Day....

China has friends in Australia and a mining magnate who exports his goods to China is in this story as well.
This guy upset that eastern Australian states don't appreciate China. They're too busy acting like China at times to do that I guess.
Mark “Wormtounge” McGowan
There seemed a fair amount of racial tension on the Northwest coast.
Tourists were strongly advised to stay inside of the motels' fenced and locked confines after dark.
Appreciate Red China? Is this guy another Dan Andrews?
The chinese are the most insecure people on the planet.
Because their “success” is because of outside forces and they cant handle that.
So the country that unleashed a weaponized virus on the world causing over 4 million deaths and trillions of dollars in economic losses is the only country reaping positive economic benefits of the pandemic.
Appreciate that.
Yes, Mark McGowan is the other hard core socialist Premier in Australia - probably ideologically at least as bad as Andrews. He hasn’t attracted as much attention overseas because due to isolation Western Australia has largely avoided any significant COVID outbreaks, so he hasn’t had any reason to go as far as Andrews in suppressing his own population. He just closes his state borders all the time, which isn’t as dramatic.
I will say there’s two things that make me respect McGowan somewhat more than Andrews even though he is a hard core socialist authoritarian.
The first is he did serve in the ADF - he was, relatively briefly, a Naval officer - a legal officer, but he still chose of his own free will to join the service.
Secondly, while in the Navy, he also received a bravery decoration for pulling an unconscious driver from a burning car.
Both of these things put him high above Andrews in my respect for him, even while I deplore his politics.
I can see that, about the isolation. Perth seems to be a long, lonely distance from Oz’s other major cities.
