That still doesn't answer my question of when the Tasmanian population reached 850 million, though. Googling seems to indicate the Aboriginal population of Tasmania started at about 3,000-7,000 and is now about 525,000.

You're right, FormerFRLurker: No people has ever gone extinct! No culture / civilization has ever been displaced, replaced, or simply "died out." It is indeed ridiculous to think that, just because we are outnumbered ten to one, that our continued existence could be in danger. The fact that African and Asian peoples are outbreeding us is of no import.
