WorkSafe charges Victorian government over alleged hotel quarantine breaches (Australia)

Victoria’s workplace safety watchdog has taken the extraordinary step of charging the state government with 58 breaches over its hotel quarantine fiasco last year.

In a bombshell development on Wednesday afternoon, WorkSafe Victoria charged the department with 17 counts of failing to provide a workplace that was free of health risks to employees.

The charges related to the state government’s hotel quarantine program, set up between March and July 2020.

Part of the reason the Victorian government is so utterly paranoid about COVID, which has lead to Melbourne experiencing the longest period in lockdown of any city in the world, is because last year, that government utterly failed in its efforts to quarantine those who actually had the disease. The majority of COVID deaths in Australia can still be linked absolutely directly to the failure of the quarantine system they set up so incompetently.

It doesn't change anything about the fact that their response since has been extremely harsh with a total disrespect for people's rights - but there is now some sign, somebody may be held to account. So far, our Premier, Daniel Andrews (widely known as Dictator Dan) has managed to avoid any real responsibility for repercussions of the decisions taken last year - a full inquiry (!?) found nobody could be identified as taking any of the decisions...

16. The majority of Covid infections are “asymptomatic”. From as early as March 2020, studies done in Italy were suggesting 50-75% of positive Covid tests had no symptoms. Another UK study from August 2020 found as much as 86% of “Covid patients” experienced no viral symptoms at all.

It is literally impossible to tell the difference between an “asymptomatic case” and a false-positive test result.

17. There is very little evidence supporting the alleged danger of “asymptomatic transmission”. In June 2020, Dr Maria Van Kerkhove, head of the WHO’s emerging diseases and zoonosis unit, said:

From the data we have, it still seems to be rare that an asymptomatic person actually transmits onward to a secondary individual,”

A meta-analysis of Covid studies, published by Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in December 2020, found that asymptomatic carriers had a less than 1% chance of infecting people within their household. Another study, done on influenza in 2009, found:

…limited evidence to suggest the importance of [asymptomatic] transmission. The role of asymptomatic or presymptomatic influenza-infected individuals in disease transmission may have been overestimated…”

This is about a socialist authoritarian maybe, finally, being held to account for the crap he has put six million people through for the last year and a half.
