That is not the true intent of the 2A only a bi-product.
That is not the true intent of the 2A only a bi-product.
You mean it was meant only for hunting? (Just kidding, I hear ya)
“God-given right, protecting ourselves and our loved ones via the 2nd Amendment.
That is not the true intent of the 2A only a bi-product.”

In reading some of the original letters, etc. regarding the 2nd Amendment they discussed the use of arms to protect against a bad government in equal terms as in self defense (against Indians, but also against criminals).
They really are the same. One quote (1791): “the privilege of every citizen, and one of his most essential rights, to bear arms, and to resist every attack upon his liberty or property, by whomsoever made.”
Also from the interwebs (note the word order):
When the colonies declared themselves independent states, they adopted their own constitutions, several of which included declarations of rights. Those of Pennsylvania and Vermont declared, “That the people have a right to bear arms for the defense of themselves, and the state . . .
Kentucky’s Constitution of 1792 declared “that the right of the citizens to bear arms in defence of themselves and the state shall not be questioned.”

Some anti-gunners make the claim that the 2nd Amendment is only for those in a militia (wrong). But by emphasizing the 2nd as protection against our government we can fall into that trap.
