Sounds like she wouldn't have needed the marriage certificate if she had one document (utility bill, mortgage, lease, homeowner's or renter's insurance policy, etc.) that had *her* name on it. Everything was in her husband's name.

I don't know about everyone else, but moving and signing up for services and insurance takes time. My wife and I split the duties, so some were in my name and some in her name. Later, when allowed, we added both names.

Thank for the explanation. It has been at least 10 years since I moved.

Lost my wife of 47 years in 2018. I married again a year ago. We had an issue due to the Covid insanity of over her driver’s license. She got her SS card changed without much effort, some delay. But there was no place we could go to have her name changed on her driver’s license. It cause some insane stuff with an insurance company. That is a long story I would prefer to forget.
