in reading the CBS report to the end I noticed:

“””California fires have burned more than 3,671 square miles (9,507 square kilometers) this year, destroying more than 3,200 homes, commercial properties, and other structures.””””

It seems fires are now being reported in terms of square miles in order to make the fires seem smaller.

I believe there are still 640 acres in a square mile.

Reporting in terms of square miles may actually make it easier for people to understand the extent of the damage.

Connecticut has 4,842 square miles (counting land areas only). 3,671 square miles is roughly 75% the size of the state of Connecticut.

This woman is a Ph.D. student in New York state and starts fires in California. Because it rains too much in New York in the summertime for fires to get as out of control as in California?
