Coal Prices Surge In The Global Energy Crunch

European coal prices have hit a 13-year high as coal supply to Europe remains constrained and utilities fire up more coal power plants amid surging natural gas prices.

The price of coal for delivery next year to the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) hub has risen by 2.6 percent to $137 per metric ton, ... The prices are at their highest since 2008 as more coal is added to Europe’s electricity output these days amid record-high gas prices, and as supply and stockpiles are scrambling to meet demand.

“Stock levels across Europe are low, and as on the gas market, coal supply from Russia has fallen lately

...

The sky-high gas prices in Europe are forcing more utilities to turn to coal ahead of the winter heating season...

UK power company Drax said it could have its last two coal-fired plants in the country operating beyond the 2022 deadline it had set for closure if the UK government asks it to keep them operational amid the energy crisis in the country and the whole of Europe.

“If the government wants us to rethink our plans, we need to talk to them in the next few months,” Drax’s chief executive Will Gardiner ..

The rally in natural gas prices is also spurring on global demand for coal. China and India look to replenish low stocks of coal, driving coal prices in Asia to records.

Goldman Sachs last week nearly doubled its price projection for coal prices in Asia, expecting the benchmark Newcastle thermal coal to average $190 a ton in the fourth quarter, up from a previous forecast of $100 per ton, due to sky-high gas prices ahead of the winter heating season.

As Jim Quinn says, liberalism always produces the exact opposite of it’s stated goals.

Hmmm.... Facts are such stubborn things. For instance, President Trump allowed and promoted all of the American energy sectors to produce as much as possible. We were exporting Liquid Natural Gas LNG to Europe, so that Europe did not have to only depend on Russia for natural gas.

The article mentions the Chicoms reaching out for coal. The Chicoms have been scouring the globe for coal for decades. Obambi tried as hard as he could to shut down the American coal industry. At the same time he was doing that, Obambi was shipping large amounts of coal to the Chicoms. Obambi did not not mind the Chicoms burning a great deal of coal, he just didn’t want Americans enjoying all the heat and air conditioning that electricity provides. The Chicoms were, and are, building coal-fired power plants as fast as they can, while at the same time ‘talking about how they will ‘ eventually’ participate in the hoax of climate change. All over Africa, South America, and wherever else they can find it, they are digging up coal and shipping it to China.

One of the few positives of us not using coal, is that it will be there when the next Ice Age comes, unless we dig up all of our coal and send it to the Chicoms.

When the next Ice Age comes, Canada and the northern part of America will, once again, be under a great deal of ice and snow. I can just see the people watching old news broadcasts, movies about Global Warming, that we were going to burn in hot fires of Climate Change. These future people may, or may not, have developed more ways to power and heat their homes. Even today we could build smaller, and very safe, nuclear power plants to power neighborhoods. There are newer nuclear power plant designs that are very, very safe to run. Think about all the Navy ships and submarines that have been powered by nuclear energy for decades. We know how to run nuclear power plants, large and small, to supply all the energy we need, and to create the air conditioning and heat that we need.

One more factoid. About 70% of France’s power plants are nuclear. I doubt they are considered shutting them all down anytime soon.
