I read that split reigns are used to slap the rear of the horse to make it turn quicker - sorta like a pivot. How does that work? Does it turn its rear the side the reign hits or to the opposite? Is it like barrel racing where the cowgirls make the horse do a 180 or 360 around the barrel after a full run. Think I remember them slapping the rear as they start the turn at the rodeos I've been to over the years.

I have limited experience on horses, but know how to turn with the connected reigns where you pull on the side you want to turn. I can even make a horse back up. The above is beyond my knowledge. Please explain so I can bookmark your answer to counter the lies by Biden and others. Thank you.
