No society, and certainly no empire, has ever has moved to less energy density, and survived for long. Yes, we can improve efficiency and conservation, but economy-wide, renewables will never replace oil, gas, and especially, nuclear. Renewable sources themselves have very high energy needs to build and maintain.
Also, America and much of the world is deeply in debt. That can only be repaid by increased economic productivity. Moreover economic production and energy use rise in nearly a perfect 1:1 ratio - so the USA can’t repay its debt while using less energy. Absolutely impossible.
IMHO America, and the world, are entering a period of greater energy scarcity - and either outright, or inflationary, debt default because of it.
That’s what you get when you elect people like Tester. I’m sure he’s in favor of mining/drilling but do you really believe it?
