Biden wasn't going to "heal" anything. He's not a "healer." He's a politician. Politicians and partisans thrive on division.
It's possible that things might not be so bad, though, if the Republicans had managed to hold on to the Senate and made clear that the Democrats' opportunities were limited.
But of course, if that had happened, we wouldn't know just how bad things would be under the current scenario.
