Every investment advisor I have visited looks at me like I am crazy when I tell them it is not safe to keep all of your money and valuables in the US. Even safe deposit boxes are not immune from the looters.
Upon retirement I plan to offshore a majority of assets including real estate. The USG looters have a very difficult time seizing assets overseas, particularly real property, absent evidence of theft or narcotrafficking.
