I just finished a novel thriller a la Clive Cussler style, where the volcano there went off big time. The entire western side of the island slid off as there is in real life a huge fault line in this island.
The hero of our story is a geologist and he predicted the volume of the slide to be 15 cubic km and would cause a tsunami from the Caribe all the way up the eastern seaboard to Nova Scotia that would go miles inland!
He saved the day in the end.
The Potomac should funnel the tsunami to the center of what once was a perfectly good swamp that got turned into an open sewer, and flush it away.
I will mourn the Smithsonian, though.
Interesting. One of the things about this theory of a large Tsunami being created is that I don’t think there is any geological evidence for large Tsunamis in the Atlantic Ocean. For one thing I believe a Tsunami’s power is deep below the wave which would be absorbed or lessened by the Mid-Atlantic ridge system.
