Minnesota high court allows ballot question on Minneapolis police reform

The Minnesota Supreme Court on Thursday night ruled in favor of allowing an amendment to remain on the ballot that would replace the Minneapolis Police Department with a “Department of Public Safety.”

The decision by the state’s highest court, which overturned a lower-court ruling, came the night before early and absentee voting is set to begin in the Minneapolis municipal elections.

On Tuesday, a district judge rejected the language of the ballot question that would replace the Minneapolis Police Department with a new Department of Public Safety.

The measure would remove Minneapolis’ charter’s requirement for minimum police staffing levels in the city.

If passed, the police department would be replaced with a Department of Public Safety, which “could include” police officers — if they are deemed necessary.

Replace the Minneapolis Police Department with a “Department of Public Safety.” I hope this passes. Let social workers show up to a gang shoot out at night and see them try to talk the gangbangers out of it.

FWIW "Department of Public Safety" was the name (in English) of Napoleon's secret police.

Minneapolis was lost to civilization last summer. On purpose. Because the Democrats on a national level decided it would be.

Department of Public Safety

The Committee of Public Safety was the name of the group that seized power over every function of government during the French Revolution of 1789, and ran the guillotines. The head of it was Robespierre--that is, until his own Committee chopped off his head, too. Needless to say, it has served as the model for Communist governments ever since.

Part of me thinks the name "Department of Public Safety" is a deliberate echo of Robespierre's group. Then I think, "Naaaah! These people are too f-ing ignorant to crack a history book."

But either way, my guess is that their aim is the same--to be a thing with a floating purpose and a floating agenda that will give them an excuse to have the last word on every function of public life in the vague name of "Safety." And therefore have people shot.

Close!--but. . . (See above.) Let's not be unfair to Napoleon, who actually shut down the secret police and liberated France from the totalitarian Revolutionaries. He was the one who restored order, stopped the shooting war against the resisting provinces, made peace among the factions, legalized the Church and stopped hanging nuns and priests.

(Okay, and then set about conquering the outside world.)

It was the (proto-Commie) French Revolutionaries who ran the secret police.

Bring it, Minneapolis! Stew in your own juices. You will have no one to blame but yourselves. And it’s going to make for some great TV! Can you imagine the video from the ride-alongs? “Watch as Safety Officer Karen tries to talk the 400 pound naked man out of stabbing his equally obese boyfriend.”

I hope this passes.

I don't. The consequences will be horrible.

Let social workers show up to a gang shoot out at night and see them try to talk the gangbangers out of it.

The gangsters will be among the first people hired in the new "Department of Public Safety". They will be shooting a rival faction with the full blessing of the city in exchange for their assistance in "getting out the vote". And they will be used for "enforcing public health orders" against political opponents.

They will even wear masks for that latter project.

The odd thing is, All ‘police’ are licensed as “Peace Officers” , they are playing word games and successfully redefining terms. The city cut the police department budget and redirected that cut to their own security detail, which many were former Mpls PD (yes the same ones that quit or laid off by their budget cut)
When ilhan 0mar is out there holding rallies for this you have to follow the money.
