About a mile from my place, is the site for the Battle of the Brandywine. September 11, 1777. Farmers stayed and fought professional English troops allowing General Washington to escape. The farmers succeed, but paid the ultimate price.

My fifth great grandfather, John Carpenter, was Washington’s neighbor and fought with him in the French & Indian War and the Revolution. They are both rolling in their graves.
