ATLANTA — Channel 2 Action News has learned that a man is dead and another was injured during a shooting at a busy Buckhead shopping center.
The shooting happened around 4 p.m. at the Peachtree Battle Shopping Center in the 2300 block of Peachtree Road.
Police said a man was coming out of one of the stores when he saw people breaking into his car. That’s when he confronted them and started shooting to defend himself.
Investigators said another man ran from the scene and was shooting off rounds as he ran. They located that person a short distance later.
In total, two people were shot. One was killed at the scene. The other was taken to a nearby hospital and was last listed as stable.
Branch Properties, which owns the shopping center, released a statement, saying:
“On Friday afternoon, the security team at Peachtree Battle Shopping Center responded to a situation that occurred in the parking lot. Our team was on-site and responded immediately and is continuing to work closely with the Atlanta Police Department. The safety of our guests is our top priority, and we are continuing to keep heightened security measures in place on-site.”
I’m sure that in this clown world we now live in the owner will be arrested and charged with murder.
If his life wasn’t in danger he is in the wrong they’ll say. Protecting your property is not an excuse to kill someone right???
I went to college there in the early 80's. MARTA was often jokingly said to mean "Moving Africans Rapidly Through Atlanta." It probably still is.
I remember when Peachtree Battle shopping center was the bastion of high class wealthy safety. Sad.
About 35 years ago my employer wanted to transfer me to Atlanta. My wife grew up there so she knew the city pretty well. Even in the nicer neighborhoods like Ansley Park we could see how things were going, even then. I’m really glad I said no thanks.
From the article:
“Investigators said another man ran from the scene and was shooting off rounds as he ran.”
Hard to tell, but it this makes it look like the bad guys were shooting, too. This is the only thing I saw in the article that indicates that, though.
Just know what the acronym stands for.
I used to shop at the A&P at Peachtree Battle in the 80s. At 2 in the morning, so did Elton John, it was a safe place then.
It's possible the car owner confronted the perps and they produced a gun. If so, there is a good argument that the owner shot in self defense.
The reporter also used “shooting off rounds” so what does that tell you about the brilliance of said reporter? And there will be YUGE lawyer fees involved.
If this is truly how it went down, then it's absolutely unacceptable.!
Possession of stolen merchandise is still against the law, isn't it..?

If the crooks were armed then I don't see when he had a choice. Well done by the car owner.
When they attacked his car while armed they made themselves the aggressors. At least one of them was armed. Had the car owner not shot he may well have been shot himself. the fellow running away was shooting.
Also said more than one person was shooting I think. That could mean he confronted armed suspects breaking into his car. It became self defense with them being armed.
The big issue for the owner is that the shooting happened in a democrat city. If he is white he will be indicted.
Call me old-fashioned, but breaking into someone’s car/house makes YOU the “aggressor”.
Did they recover the perp’s gun?
LOL
The story did say that one alleged thief was firing as he ran away. That is why he lived, he was ABLE to still run away. If the shooter had chased him and killed him, the courts would have certainly ruled against him. Now, the citizen defending his car has a chance.
The summary statement is totally misleading. He didn’t just “start shooting”. He was shooting in self-defense.
I had this misleading crap.
They were the aggressors by breaking into his car. He had every right to yell at them to stop (confrontation).
Reward thieves, you get more thieves.
