I hate like hell to admit this but if those planes were flown into CNN and MSNBC hdqtrs,or some A-list a-hole celeb’s mansion or Pelousi’s estate I’d be a teeny tiny bit less outraged
I was at my office in DC. Saw the smoke from the Pentagon.
I recall exactly when I heard the news and then saw the second plane hit . Could hardly get myself to work that day. That night talked with a friend in PA who immediately knew it was Ben Laden.
That’s awesome!
I am so grateful for what the firemen and police did, and EMTs. So many of them went through so much for this. I follow all the shows and I feel I know so many of the firemen. Fascinating and heart-breaking.
But having gone thru that day as we all did, at the time hearing reports about how the plane went down, I figured something must’ve happened. When it was confirmed there was no question many of the folks on that plane fought despite the risks. They are not paid for it and it’s not their job. And they had no expectation of this danger. But they faced it anyway. That is the truest definition.
Thank you for this thread.
Thanks, was working that day without access to TV. Followed it on radio and FR.
Try to get your original VHS tapes transferred to something more lasting. Rewriting history will be harder if original records are preserved.
When 9/11 happened I was in California and needed to get back home to Florida.
No planes flying......so my husband and I drove across our awesome country.......and everywhere....EVERYWHERE!......the American Flag was flying...!!!!
Draped over interstate bridges......attached to car windows!.........homes, .....towns......tiny villages......huge buildings......EVERYWHERE.....our FLAG was held high!......all the way home.....
On 9/11 early am PDT, my wife and I were at a semi hidden resort on the Oregone Coast. She was still asleep and I was watching the news without volume when the first plane hit. I didn’t realize what was happening. My wife woke up just as the second plane hit the other tower.
We decided immediately to check out and head for home. The phones didn’t work for long distance. My wife called the front desk to start the check out, and I drove our OJ Simpson Bronco to the gas station across the hiway to get gas. They limited me to 10 gallons. Enough to get to Brookings, Or. but not home in N. California.
We stopped in Gold Beach to cancel later reservations and to get lodging in Brookings. The desk clerk, who, we knew got us resies in Brookings and 5 gallons of gas from their pumps.
We got another 5 gals in Brookings at a regular stop station, I thought that there was going to be a gun fight. The owner had signs no cans would be filled. He and a crazed customer came close to battle until another customer with a deer rifle told the a$$hole customer to lay his gun down and gas can down and walk away. Which he did.
The gas station owner, whom we had known over the years, gave me a # written with spray paint on cardboard and to use it early the next morning to get into line. Which we did.
The next day after the extra 5 gallons of gas, we decided to head home. I went back to the hotel to get my wife and to check out.
We started seeing American flags when we got into California heading home. Basically every vehicle had an American flag flying. I had our Navy decal with a flag on the tailgate.
We stopped for lunch in Willits at a fast food, and I asked the manager if he knew where I could buy an American flag.
He said no, but he had one to give me. He wrapped duct taped its little wooden staph around our radio aerial. I still have that little flag in my home office.
After a quick pit stop at home, I broke out our good size American Flag and put it into its holder outside by our carport. I put our “Don’t Tread on Me” Flag in its holder by our front door.
Then, my wife said, “Get the big luggage into our bedroom and then get on Free Republic to find out what is really happening.”
Which I did.
I enjoyed reading your personal account!
As I remember we didn’t have a shortage of gas.......**but I had forgotten this part**.....we didn’t start home till a week later!
We stopped in New Orleans for lunch across the street from their HUGE Convention Center....
....the restaurant was BIG........and we were the only customers!
It was like this all the way home.......a ghost town!
We were a United country then.
Wow
I know i.was posting on 9/11, but I don’t remember what my user is was.
**Never Forget**
For those who were here back then, 9/11 victims John Moran, fdny, and Barbara K Olsen (on the pentagon flight) were both freepers. Battalion chief Moran was known as bcm and Barbara was bko.
A new movie, “United 93,” was just released. I’ve not seen it yet but it has nearly five stars.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0475276/
New? Even the listing says 2006.
Yup, I loved it - in an awful kind of way (anger is my usual reaction to all this, not mere crying because it was an atrocity). I think it’s still up along with all my real documentaries.
Sorry about that. For some reason on Amazon it says 2021. Yes, it is the 2006 film.
Copies of these should be sent to the Library of Congress and to the Smithsonian.
Chances are they would shred those records. They have abandoned their mission.
