A fight broke out Tuesday evening after a Missouri school board unanimously approved a mask mandate as students return to classrooms.
ABC affiliate KMBC reported that Pleasant Hill Police Department officers responded to a fist fight involving several people in a parking lot following the vote by the Pleasant Hill Board of Education. One individual was handcuffed.
The school district has reported 21 coronavirus cases in the first nine days of the school year, more than all of last year, according to KMBC. The news station also reported that 180 students and faculty are quarantining. Overall, 7 percent of the Pleasant Hill population is quarantining.
The fist fight outside the school board meeting marks the latest violent outburst over local officials imposing mask mandates for schools to help guard against the highly contagious delta variant of COVID-19.
That’s what they get for messing around with Ruth and company.
This country, including the school system, is where it is because we citizens have trusted that elected and unelected officials are honest public servants.
We truly have been asleep at the wheel and every institution and government body has been infiltrated. This has been going on for a long time and won’t be remedied over night.
My husband and I chose to be involved and knowledgeable about our kids education. I stayed home and closely watched everything. When they were in elementary school, I was in their classes every day and participated in all their activities. I saw this liberal crap thirty years ago and counteracted it, but left them in school as I couldn’t teach advanced math and science.
There is no one size fits all approach here. Parents are awakened to what is going on. Those who can homeschool should but those who can’t must continue to fight and not get discouraged or lose interest if the first few battles are not won.
The School Districts receive their funding through the property taxes in Missouri. The county assessor/collectors determine the value of your home and personal property and it is taxed at the established rate percentage. Those tax collections are allocated to the fire, ambulance, school, city and county authorities. Each one with their own boards control the spending.
I’m fully aware of how the money is collected.
So what you’re telling me that the school loads sets the school budget and that’s it? The county commission or city council doesn’t approve the spending.
So I guess the US Dept of Education just dios their hands nto the general
Fund and takes what it wants?
Negative.
They have a budget request just like every other department and it is approved.
In reality, the budget is never challenged. It’s for the children do t you know. But their budgets could be challenged. Councils/commissions could reign them in but they don’t. And the taxpayer continues to pay.
Let’s see the parents demand that the school budget be placed online so everyone can see it and see where all the money is going. Most district administrators would have a stroke if they were told to do that.
Giving parents a way to learn why they all get new phones every year would not go over well.
Yes. They are their own entity. Still accountable to the public through local elections and public held meetings much as the way of municipalities. You don’t like what they are doing, show up and give ‘em a piece of your mind and vote them out in the next election!
The problem with school boards is that most people are ignorant of their proper role, which is to represent the taxpayers. They should be composed of plumbers, engineers, farmers, truck drivers, accountants, etc. Instead, due to this ignorance, we usually get people that work in the education industry ... the fox guarding the henhouse.
