Who knows, maybe this new pill is a better molecule with greater anti-viral and/or anti-inflammatory properties than IVM. But they’d have to study them head to head to find out, and they will never study IVM for covid in any real scientific method.
It is interesting that, afaik from what I read, this new pill is 2x per day forever. IVM is just used for a few days.
Been around biotech to know, Merck has a lot of data on IVM, has probably designed 100s of variations on it over the decades, and now that IVM is off patent they want something that will generate them the big bucks via patent protection (that last part was probably too obvious to even state aloud). But who else may have a piece of the patent royalties?
