Spotlight turns to GOP's McCarthy in Jan. 6 probe

The public spotlight around the investigation into the Capitol attack of Jan. 6 has shifted squarely onto Rep. Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), the GOP leader who has emerged as the face of defiant opposition to the congressional probe into the deadly riot.

McCarthy has long been a figure of interest to the select committee given his phone call with then-President Trump amid the insurrection, in which the president allegedly suggested the pro-Trump rioters were more patriotic than the lawmakers under siege. McCarthy has acknowledged the call occurred but has repeatedly declined to discuss specific details.

The focus on his role, and any involvement from other Republicans, has only intensified over the past week, when McCarthy took the remarkable step of threatening the nation's tech and telecom giants with unnamed repercussions if they comply with the investigators’ request to retain the phone and social media records of GOP lawmakers who actively supported the effort to block President Biden's electoral victory.

"If companies still choose to violate federal law, a Republican majority will not forget and will stand with Americans to hold them fully accountable under the law," McCarthy warned.

McCarthy, who is reportedly among the Republicans named in that request, did not specify the potential consequences — and Democrats quickly accused him of felonious attempts to impede a congressional investigation.

The “siege” was staged — all of it.

Yeah I visited the WH and Capitol during Trump’s first year in office and I remember how extremely difficult it was to get in either building. Advance reservations, multiple levels of security inspections, scheduled time slot, etc.

Anybody who “walked in” had to know that they were violating a bunch of laws.

It’s like a contest of the left to string together as many lies they can in a paragraph.

Innsurection, deadly riot, Trump attempted coup,....

Just straight up trash garage....

Why even post this stuff?

Sounds to me that he should have been AHEAD of the issue and should have considered DEFENDING TRUMP as the steal was taking place, which was the week starting Election Day (if not before).

So, for now, he can rot, as far as I’m concerned.

How many of those arrested had ever visited those buildings before?

I despise the left in this country. Literally despise them! The contempt I feel for these people is as deep as the abyss.

No idea.
But since 9/11 DC has been a very tight security level. Most/all federal buildings are.

Heck even when I visited the Clinton Double Wide Presidential Library and Massage Parlor in Little Rock getting in was like TSA level security to board a plane.

I’ve never been to D.C. I did visit my state capitol once at Jefferson City. We walked in through the front doors and were pretty much free to wonder about except for the actual floor of the House/Senate. Didn’t have to have an invitation or permission to enter.

I realize since the ‘War on Terror’ things have tightened up some. But the idea that a citizen simply setting foot on a step outside of the Capitol is grounds for prosecution seems to be a bit over the top for me.

Did you know that until the 1920s anyone could show up at the White House on New Years Day and tell the President of the U.S. what was on his mind? The idea that Congress needs 15,000 troops to guard it against the American people says a lot.

Yeah I just read Grant’s bio.

He used to walk out the door unaccompanied after lunch and talk to people on the street around the WH and Capitol.

“No idea.”

That’s my point. About 5 years ago there were two separate international flights to JFK that got dumped in the main terminal, without going through Passport Control and Customs. As an international traveler of many countries, I would know that that something is wrong if I were on one of those flights...but what about people flying the first time - should they be expected to know something is wrong, too?

Looking at the people there, I doubt most had spent time on Capitol Hill as lobbyists or staffers, so I don’t put the blame on them for not knowing protocol, especially given that many were waved in by Capitol Police.

He is a dead man walking...

We’ll soon hear about his drug use, child pornography, and illegal weapons uncovered by the FBI...

"Anybody who “walked in” had to know that they were violating a bunch of laws"

Really? If someone had never been there before, and police waved them in, how would they know they were breaking any laws? Smug little squibs like you are why we always lose. You make me sick.

"Why even post this stuff?"

To keep the language and verbiage current ... even here in FR.

McCarthy, a figure of interest, played a role in the insurrection.

There's a mini novel in refuting that sentence right there !

“The Hill” not worth dying on.

I used to have high hope for McArthy.

Not any more. Yah I know, the RNC are a minority.

Well, maybe if the RNC actually fought for real and honest Constitutional elections, and for actial breathing American voters, the down ballots would have put Pelosi’s marxist traitors six feet under.

Additionally going, the RNC Uniparty risked risked going so far as to being found out as lawfully treasonous, to coup out Trump, be party to mass election fraud, install a fraudulent commie prez, and have done so well at hiding election truth and blocking justice, at both federal and state levels, we still don’t have any truth or justice, despite the entire world knowing the details.

And as Psaki admitted today in a Freudian slip, what was a very real socialist election fraud plan included their COVID-19 “Plandemic”.

No, I interpret this as “The Hill” and the left, providing a couple red meat scraps to help reinforce McArthy’s base, to insure he returns in 2022, in the event the massive union controlled hamd counts, and Dominion systems fail.

Should not there be an 'R' in that last name? The publication is 'The Hill', so where do YOU think they get their editorial slant from? If the words were any more 'loaded' they would explode BEFORE reading! GARBAGE!
