"This means no commercial ads. No annoying pop-ups. No ad tracking. No mail campaigns. No spam. No third-parties -- not even the IRS -- trying to control what we do or say."
If you right click view source in your browser, you will find the following code at the bottom of the Free Republic page.
****="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js"> ?????? *****_uacct = "UA-2288668-1"; urchinTracker();????
Google uses google-analytics for their tracking program. Google is able to track everybody that goes to Free Republic with the code above. Many web sites and business on the internet uses Google Analytics because it is free. Free comes at cost, the customer privacy.
Each time you visit a site with Google Analytics a cookie and fingerprint your browser (for those who block cookies) is created. This allow google to know who you are and what ads to show you across the internet.
We need to find an alternate to Google Analytics.
Please do not take an offense to the message. This is just a suggestion to protect users' privacy.
