Not all Korean men are like that.

Don’t know which movie it came from but a rock station used to play a little soundbite of a serious, deep voiced authority figure saying: “Do you realize how much damage to our country that many unleashed teenagers could do?”

Sounds like Chicoms are afraid, too.

Taliban rulers in their throne room....

“I took the gender studies courses simply to gain more empathic understanding about my favorite goat.”
“That’s sensitive, Achmad. Very sensitive.”

It’s rare you read any fan related information on any of these men implying that they’re gay. I believe I just read one and it was arguing that his marriage was a front.

It’s just that plastic surgery is not at all uncommon to conform to a standard of male and female beauty that emphasizes youth and the care of facial skin. As a result, they choose actors who conform to that “look.” The hardest thing to get used to in watching asian dramas is that every actor who portrays the CEO of a company actually looks like he just turned 17. But when you read their bios, they’re usually in their 30’s and sometimes in their 40’s.

But the main audience for these actors is female. Watch dramas and your jaw will drop if you see a female actress undressing. But almost EVERY drama will show the main actor showering. And the crowds shown going gaga for the actors in the idol dramas are almost entirely female.

There was controversy when one of the highly paid, famous actors of this stereotype played a special forces officer but he did it quite well, as he’d just returned from his required military service.

I think it’s more that the dramas were beginning to change the image that they were projecting. I’ve watched hundreds of dramas and all of them depict religion and only two mentioned socialism or communism. The culture shown is usually western oriented. There’s a choice of two types of weddings. The majority of chinese dramas show western weddings, not chinese.

But the newer dramas I’m seeing are beginning to say that individualism is better than following your parents’ lead, and I admit that that surprised me. The tradition of being filial took care, for the most part, of the need to support older people. But that control over the younger generation seemed to be loosening. Where every family of physicians bred up a new generation of doctors, the new shows emphasize the children fighting to be their own person and succeeding. That doesn’t fit in with the socialist model.

Husband and I watch different dramas in the evening and compare our reaction to the culture differences in the morning. More calming than reading articles on Biden. The early dramas we watched had an innocence to them that reminded us of US in the 50’s made with the techniques of the 2020’s. Today I’m seeing less emphasis on that type of morality and more emphasis on a series of relationships with not complete trust in finding a good one.

One interesting difference is matchmaking. The pressure to marry and have the next generation is intense, so parents will scour their friends for suitable matches. That’s not surprising. What is, is that the children agree and will meet for these blind dates with strangers to quiet the parents. The dates are discussions of what each expects of a marriage, so they’re dead serious in looking at potential strangers as life mates.

Another difference is that the level of studying required to have a successful life is beyond anything we can even imagine. In the 3 years of high school, the last year is spent learning how to pass the exam at the end of the year that determines your entire future. The dramas emphasize how children who haven’t buckled down can get a goal or dream that changes them into studying robots.

Only in sports dramas, for e-games or physical sports, do you usually see the extreme nationalism that I think the government is aiming at. There the athletes all dream of their victory for China, not just for themselves.

So I would guess that what the new rules are doing is trying to bring the dramas back that promote Chinese nationalism and morality and try to minimize the ones that emphasize individualism, hip-hop culture. I doubt they’ll touch religion. It’s too inbred in the entire population as something that doesn’t interfere with the government aims. Religion as opium for the masses isn’t a problem in China. It’s religions that try to be more important than government that would require crackdowns.

No the Chinese have read the research and want to preserve their children’s brains. They see what screens do to developing brains.

Best thing pare to can do is to shield kids from all screens and give them as much 3 dimensional work to do as possible. And auditory and language arts including handwriting

Chinese Communists Ban ‘Sissy Men’ to Save ‘Revolutionary Culture’

If this country banned sissy/girlie men from government we would lose about 90% of Washington.

Maybe the "sissy men" are one of the consequences of the looming shortage of women in China due to the draconian "one child" policy of past Communist regimes.
