The general officer U.S. military ranks have a big problem: The field grade officer and noncommissioned officer ranks have had enough of the double standards applied to leadership.
Top line: Whereas those out in the field are held strictly accountable for any failure, real or imagined, general officer ranks are rarely held accountable for far worse leadership failures that have a far greater impact.
One Marine lieutenant colonel just evinced this sentiment in a Facebook video post. Looking directly into the camera, Stuart Scheller stated , "I think what you believe in can only be defined by what you’re willing to risk. So, if I’m willing to risk my current battalion commander seat, my retirement, my family’s stability to say some of the things I want to say, I think it gives me some moral high ground to demand the same honesty, integrity, accountability from my senior leaders."
Explaining his "demand for accountability," Scheller referenced the double standards applied to field grade officers and general officers. He noted that if a "battalion commander has the simplest live-fire incident, [equal opportunity] complaint. Boom. Fired." But Scheller pointed out that there has been no accountability for the litany of leadership failures that have defined the withdrawal from Afghanistan. He noted that "we have a secretary of defense that testified to Congress in May that the Afghan National Security Forces could withstand the Taliban advance. We have chairmen of the Joint Chiefs — who the [Marine Corps] commandant is a member of [the Joint Chiefs] — who’s supposed to advise on military policy. We have a Marine combatant commander. All of these people are supposed to advise."

Thus it has always been.
Where are the congressional oversight people? Oh wait, sorry. The folks who made that decision are exempt from the laws that the rest of us have to live by! Blame Donald Trump.
Warroirs do not command the troops. The Joint Chiefs of Staff is just another politicized Federal bureaucracy controlled by the commissars. Milley is an excellent example of the political pole climbers that become senior officers and run the military. Most of the officer corp has no confidence in their superior officers. Its the young troops that suffer and die. The corrupt, demented Bidenis held beneath contempt by even the perfumed, clueless generals.
I can't disagree with you. I caught hell for flunking my first ARTEP as a 2nd LT. I could say I was set up, but it didn't matter. You know the words from the Leaders Handbook: everything that my unit does, or fails to do, is my responsibility.
Turned out to be one of the greatest learning experiences of my life. After several weeks of taking crap from my battery and battalion commanders, I basically told them, "I get it. If my neck's on the line, then stay out of my way and let me do my job."
I turned into a real PITA, and the results spoke for themselves: took 3 more platoons through their evaluations successfully, and carried my battery over the line as acting XO.
There's a chain of command out there that deserves relieving of officers O-6 and up. There is no way in Hades that an LTC battalion commander could dream up such a FUBAR operation. No, it was designed by staff puke REMFs and flag officers that haven't led troops in at least 5 years.
Straight out of Once An Eagle: Courtney Massengales are running the show, while the Sam Damons are being run out of the military.
“Thus it has always been.”
In today’s military nobody kisses ass like a General Officer and any one of them would gladly drop to their knees and service any politician if it had a chance at leading to another star.
It wasn’t always so.
The Commanding General of USCENTCOM is Frank McKenzie. This was on his watch.
The perfumed princes as Col. Hackworth called them.
Scheller will have one heck of a book to write.
Why is the author excluding junior grade officers?
General officers (1-star generals / admirals and above) are mentioned.
Field grade officers (Majors, Lt.-Colonels, and Colonels and their Navy equivalents: Lt. Commanders, Commanders, and Captains) are mentioned.
Non-commissioned officers (Corporals and Sergeants) are mentioned.
But in between are Junior grade officers (2nd Lieutenants, 1st Lieutenants, and Captains and the Navy equivalents: Ensigns, Lieutenants j.g., and Lieutenants s.g.) - and the article seems to intentionally exclude them.
Why?
Regards,
“The prerequisite to be a U.S. general officer is no longer to evince intellect and leadership, but rather to show utter subservience to higher ranks.,p>WTF?!”
One might read how Hitler and the SS controlled military commanders. Anyone who questioned the higher authority was either shot for treason or forced to commit suicide. This is the direction of todays military under the leadership of Joe Biden. Fascism has come to roost in America, and it’s leaders are the Democrats. Now I’ll be convicted under the UCMJ for questioning Herr Fuhrer, Joe Biden. I mean, the high command is threatening to do this to active duty, retired and vets alike if they are caught questioning the presidents decisions in Afghanistan.
Thus it has always been.
No, this is something new.
The military became hyper political in the Age of Trump. The Never Trump GOP cheered them right along in an effort to undermine Trump and the hated MAGA agenda.
You have the Coast Guard Commandant publicly undermining Trump’s trannie policy, Pentagon lying about troop levels in Syria, Mattis and other retired military openly doing that, too. Milley and his pathetic and partisan groveling over the burned church, etc., etc.
We have lost our checks and balances. Result being 12 dead in A-stan. Our institutions are utterly corrupt and the price for that will be paid in the blood of America’s best.
Here here.
RLTW
Scheller gets booted, but Vindman was hailed as a hero?
Why is that?
+1
These generals today never led troops in combat as a young LT or Captain.
IMO the last of the real generals. The real generals who cut their teeth in Vietnam, who truly led, who took personal responsibility, who had integrity was the likes of Schwarzkopf, Franks, Horner, etc.
Because the GOP are soft and the DNC will cut your balls off.
The perfumed princes of the Pentagon, will hold court with those who will prop up their careers, ie, the DNC.
