House Democrats prepare to bow to a reality - their ambitions can only be as big as centrist Senate Democrats allow

WASHINGTON - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made an unusual admission this week - one that essentially gives the Senate the upper hand in drafting details of President Joe Biden's ambitious $3.5 trillion plan to expand social safety-net programs.

"We write a bill with the Senate, I because it's no use our doing a bill that is not going to pass the Senate," "In the interest of getting things done, results, getting results."…

One result of this streamlined approach to writing the legislation is that it will reinforce the power of centrist Senate Democrats, particularly Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, who have already held outsized influence over the first two major agenda items for Biden: the $1.9 trillion pandemic relief package and the roughly $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill that passed the Senate earlier this month...

By limiting themselves only to things that can win the support of all 50 members of the Senate Democratic caucus, aggressive proposals such as providing a path to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants may never get to the starting line...

But a pair of veteran House Democrats forced the other part of the deal, essentially mandating that House and Senate Democrats do a "preconference" on their proposals to match up their plans before either chamber holds a vote…

Those rules, and Manchin's ability to exploit his position in the 50-50 Senate, have made pushing the most liberal policies on the table relatively pointless. After voting for the Senate version of the budget proposal, Manchin announced he would not support a final bill that actually spent $3.5 trillion.

As veteran moderates explain it, they are done with the idea of voting for provisions that expose them to political risk that are not going to end up becoming law...

Make Joe Manchin an offer he cannot refuse to switch parties. Do it now when Biden is at his weakest.

You just reminded me - that FEMA money was how Trump got around the Rats last year in providing unemployment - when Pelosi blocked him. I fear they will ‘Bulk Up’ FEMA again to do the same …

He won’t switch parties. He likes the position he’s in, where he can vote no when it’s a sure thing anyway so he can claim that he represented his constituents, while at the same time playing along with the party.

Sad that we are forced to rely on Democrats to screw this up.

These are the Assistant Democrats that enabled the latest assault on the USA

Dan Sullivan (R-AK) Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) Mike Crapo (R-ID) Roy Blunt (R-MO) Richard Burr (R-NC) Deb Fischer (R-NE) Lindsey Graham (R-SC) Rob Portman (R-OH) Thom Tillis (R-NC) Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) Jim Risch (R-ID) Chuck Grassley (R-IA) Bill Cassidy (R-LA) Kevin Cramer (R-ND) Roger Wicker (R-MS) Mitch McConnell (R-KY) John Hoeven (R-ND) Susan Collins (R-ME) Mitt Romney (R-UT)

They knew when they were voting for the $1.2 trillion they were enabling the bigger, worse one.

I post these stories to keep people informed about the ‘politics’ behind the legislative bodies. I don’t necessarily put ‘hope’ in Manchin and Sinema, but There is a very interesting dynamic that could sink these bill. I don’t believe Sinema will support Amnesty, nor Joe support the Green New Deal, nor either of them support 3.5T in new spending; conversely, I expect Bush and AOC to derail the infrastructure bill, if they don’t get the Green New Deal, Amnesty, and a host of other goodies. Just keeping folks informed

The GOP isn't capable of making an offer he can't refuse. There's a ton of power in being the swing vote - just ask Anthony Kennedy. Manchin isn't about to give up that kind of power to become part of Mitch McConnell's caucus.

The Dems have to get this thing passed before it becomes too obvious that they’re going to lose both houses in 2022.

They lost both houses and the White House in 2020 if only legal votes are counted.

Hello to trillion dollar deficits for eternity.

Wait until interest rates soar in an attempt to stop the rampaging inflation. Then we'll see real pain. The interest payments on the enormous debt will crowd out just about everything in the federal budget. And remember, social security benefits are indexed for inflation, so these payments will necessarily skyrocket. We're in real trouble here, folks.

100% Correct.

Plus, how long does any one think it would be, before the demonRATs converted any of the weak pubbies to switch over and join them.

There is a long list of cheezey pubbies that would flip in a heartbeat, once Manchin made it politically acceptable.

You know that the msm would cheer lead them and provide any cover they needed.
