Democrats mull disapproval process to break debt limit stalemate
Roll Call ^ | 27 August 2021 | Paul M. Krawzak

House Democratic leaders are considering taking a page from a similar budget standoff a decade ago that led to the first-ever U.S. credit downgrade as they look for ways to lift or suspend the statutory debt ceiling amid near-unanimous GOP opposition.

The maneuver under consideration is a resolution of disapproval process for suspending the debt limit, according to sources with knowledge of the conversations....

...Doing so could, in theory, inoculate both Democrats and Republicans against charges that they voted directly for lifting the nation's credit card limit....

It’s like with credit cards. If you’re trying to keep your wife from increasing the limit on your credit cards to try to prevent going into bankruptcy, you’ve already lost.

The fight SHOULD have been over why you need the limit increased in the first place. At this point it’s just useless drama, since we all know how it ends.

<>"debts owed to bondholders, or to pay military salaries or Social Security benefit"<>

Let me get this straight, if the government legitimately owes you money because you or your investment vehicle bought bonds or if you are a soldier being abandoned in Crapcanisstan or if you are hoping to get back some of the money you paid in all your life then you will be stiffed but government salaries and welfare benefits are secure.

We are slaves to our elected officials and hostages to those prone to riot.

Time to jump planet.

Instead of voting on it Pelosi will just deem it passed.
