Marine demands senior leaders accept 'accountability' for Afghanistan, gets canned

Marine Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller was relieved for cause after demanding that senior U.S. leaders hold themselves accountable for actions made during the U.S. military's withdrawal from Afghanistan that led to the deaths of 13 service members.

Officials confirmed to Fox News on Thursday that 10 Marines and two Army soldiers, as well as one Navy corpsman, were killed in explosions near Kabul's airport Thursday. Another 169 Afghans were killed, according to two officials who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

Scheller, a father of three who has been in the USMC Infantry for 17 years, mentioned senior military leaders including Marine Commandant Gen. David H. Berger, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark A. Milley, whom he said are "supposed to advise."

"I'm not saying we need to be in Afghanistan forever, but I am saying, did any of you throw your rank on the table and say, ‘Hey, it’s a bad idea to evacuate Bagram Airfield, a strategic airbase, before we evacuate everyone’? Did anyone do that? And when you didn’t think to do that, did anyone raise their hand and say, ‘We completely messed this up’?"

It was right of his chain of command to relieve him from duty. An officer who openly defies his superiors can’t be trusted to faithfully carry out orders from higher.

To an exponentially greater degree though, it was wrong that his chain of command was such a bunch of shiftless ****wads that they put a Marine officer in the position where living the values he swore to uphold is insubordination.

Everyone above him in the chain of command should have said “he’s right, this was F***ed, I quit too.”

But there’s still time for them to show they have as much honor as Custer.

And really, they should have done that about a month ago.

Why our generals were more successful in World War II than in Korea, Vietnam or Iraq/Afghanistan
Gen. George C. Marshall Eliminates the “Dead Wood”

General George C Marshall was the Chief of Staff of the United States Army during World War II. He knew exactly how to deal with bad generals. Now it looks like the dead wood has learned how not to get plucked by being in charge of the plucking.

It’s a compelling video. I think it’s a big deal, you’ll be hearing a lot more about Stuart Scheller. He’s got a future in politics, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it start soon.

I don't know. Seems like the Fall of the Phillipines and the Bataan Death March was worse

He’s got a future in politics...

Meaning his current actions can be seen as part of his political career.

I don’t think he is openly defying his officers. He appears to be critiquing them.

A re-elected Trump could bring him back with promotion above the idiots that did this. Then popcorn time!

Yes but it’s to our eternal shame that a man who was in 17 years fet kick out for telling the truth.

“Meaning his current actions can be seen as part of his political career.”

*****

Not saying that, saying taking a stand for what’s right when it isn’t in your self interest can spring board you into new arenas.

I bet he will have people beating down his door with opportunities, politics or media would seem like good bets, he’s a well spoken guy.

What mistaken decision would you point to as responsible for the Fall of the Philippines, comparable to abandoning Bagram AB?

Getting whipped by a strong invading enemy is not the same as dropping a grenade down your pants after pulling the pin yourself.

Lt Col Scheller knows more about leadership than Gen Milley.

Not saying that...

I believe he's saying that, more or less.

"When my Marine Corps career comes to an end, I look forward to a new beginning. My life’s purpose is to make America the most lethal and effective foreign diplomacy instrument. While my days of hand-to-hand violence may be ending … I see a new light on the horizon."
