Dyanna Volek was never someone who dreamed of becoming a mother.
From an early age, she knew deep down that she didn't want children. Maybe it stemmed from seeing her mother sacrifice her dream of becoming a flight attendant and work three jobs to raise two kids alone. Or maybe it was that other endeavors interested her more. "I'm always looking forward to the next thing," said Volek, who works in local government in San Francisco. "Being a parent was never one of them." Still, the idea of not having children seemed taboo, so she didn't dwell on it much. It wasn't until a few years ago when she started getting serious with her partner that she really reckoned with her feelings. By the time she and her husband got married last November, they had reached a conclusion: They didn't want kids. Volek is now 37, and doesn't see herself changing her mind. Not having children gives her a sense of freedom that her friends who are parents don't have. Now that they're vaccinated, she and her husband have been able to eat at restaurants, attend concerts and travel without worrying about risking their child's safety. They can work toward retiring early, a goal that would be otherwise unattainable in a city as expensive as theirs. And in their day-to-day life, they have plenty of time for themselves. We're starting to see how the pandemic affected births in the US We're starting to see how the pandemic affected births in the US Volek is one of a growing number of women in the US who are opting not to have children -- part of a trend that has been underway for more than a decade "..." They don't want the responsibility

Crappy article about selfish morons... They can take vacations because they don't have kids. My parents took us on vacations every August.. Those people are just selfish...
The argument made is since the US birth rate is falling we need more immigrants.
It's a demographic ponzi scheme.
Nothing would please me more than to have a house full of children. Problem is finding a man I would even consider marrying. Millennial males aren’t serious people. Not saying most of the females are, either.
“They chose careers as nurses or school teachers, married, and raised children. Some careers are better suited to raising children. Teachers have summers and holidays off, nurses often work four long days a week.”
You described many of my female relatives from my Mother to a Grand Daughter in your excellent summation above.
That description also, fits most of our female friends in their late 60’s to 80’s.
They were educated, had families and still had good careers.
Their adult off spring are also good people. They are not revolving door whackos, who should be in jail to protect themselves and others.
Absolutely not!
Many of us are in total agreement with you.
“I see cats and boxes of wine in the refrigerator in her future!”
Add rescue or pure blood dogs to the above, and you describe some women, we have known for decades.
Most did not have children even if they got married.
If they had children, those kids left home as soon as they were able.
At Christmas, my wife often gets an annual Christmas card from them. The card tells of their exotic travels and more about their pets. If they have adult kids, you seldom hear anything about their kids or even grand kids.
:)
We have raised a generation (or two) of woke, weak, selfish individuals. Unwilling to sacrifice for the future, their families, their spouses or anybody. It’s all about “me”. This is what leads to the death of civilizations. This is what allows TPTB the “reason for importing all of the third world” onto our shores. THEY want to have kids. We NEED them.
I did my bit. I raised three wonderful people. I sacrificed my career and a whole lot more. But I got MORE THAN I COULD EVER EXPECT BACK! These selfish women have no clue about anything or anyone but themselves. Their parents should have raised them better. Mine want kids despite the trauma playing out in our country. The future will be brighter because of my sons and daughter. You are welcome.
It’s probably best that such people don’t have children, don’t you think?
It may be Mother Nature telling them 24/7, “You don’t want to ever have children!”
Many of the college grads with good degrees, are getting some well paying jobs right out of college.
Then, with a little parental help, they are renting good apartments. They are often very open about not wanting to get married nor even wanting a pet.
Don't worry about her, her retirement will be spent comforted by a house full of loving cats.
We can take much of the blame. We shipped the high paying jobs out of the country just to save a few pennies, then ran up so much debt that they wouldn't be able to pay it back even if we hadn't shipped the high paying jobs out.
The future may be too scary to contemplate marriage for many women. I know of well educated people who are under-employed.
They don’t need their own children. They’ll just indoctrinate yours. The end result is the same.
I do mean “yours” relatively. Maybe you pulled your kids out of government schools. But the vast majority of republican voters have not. There is no mass of 50% of kids who should be in schools - aren’t in schools - their parents all belonging to the GOP. It just isn’t there. Republicans are not doing this far and wide.
Republican offspring are the new DNC voters.
Our grand kids were sent to good private schools from their 8th grade on. Relatives on both sides helped to pay for their tuition.
A sibling is doing the same with her grand kids.
My wife’s siblings are helping their grand kids.
Our youngest son dropped out of high school in his senior year and got his GED diploma via the night classes and attended a great trade school. People who hired him said that someone getting a GED and attending a good trade school carried more weight that a mass production high diploma and BS degree in college.
So, we have been paying extra for our younger relatives to not attend a Government B$ diploma high school for decades.
Private schools were taken over during Common Core.
They even got Texas simply by renaming it.
