Well, not really, since the M-4 is merely an evolution of the M-16.

I was watching something yesterday, and they made the argument that the changes between the M-16 and M-4 were significant enough that the M-4 could be considered a new and completely different rifle. That same argument could be made with the AK-12. Not sure I agree with the idea; it was an interesting take though.

Trying to think how many parts from one would not fit nicely in the other. Trigger burst control aside.

A refined M-16 perhaps, but not new.
